Final Photos of The Brigde and Folly in Cryengine Environment for Expt. 3_Bridge

The final images of the bridge and folly for this experiment 3 are captured from Cryengine as mentioned in the last post. These photos are basically classified into nighttime and daytime. For nighttime images, they are separated into distance views and close views. For daytime, images are grouped into different time of the day from sunrise to afternoon and from afternoon to sunset.

Hope u guys will like the moments of various periods of a day I capture:>

  • Concepts and Theories Behind the Design

In designing and creating the bridge and architectural folly, I tried to present the sense of simplicity, openness, weightlessness and transformation. To achieve simplicity, I first make the shape and material of bridge and folly to be as plain and basic as possible by creating only simple clear-cut lines on surfaces of skin and not overdoing the addition of textures on them. In addition, the openness in space is brought by widely using the glass on the bridge facades and open roof in folly. What's more, weightlessness is created via the paper-like skin and narrow shape of bridge to give the illusion of bridge floating on top of the lake in the valley. Last, transformation is generated through the varying shapes of sections in bridge to give freshness to students and staff in the faculty of architecture wherever they travel along the changing size of space in bridge.

  • Cryengine Environment in Dropbox

The Cryengine environment created above for the bridge and architectural folly is upload in Dropbox now. Please check the link below to access it. The cry. file type is the one which can access it by copying it to your own Cryengine/Game/Level fold. If version 3 cry.file cannot be accessed, please try opening version 2 instead. Thanks!

Finalised Sketchup Models of the Bridge and Architectural Folly for Expt. 3_Bridge

Hi, the photos of finalized Sketchup models of bridge and architectural folly are posted as follow with 3 chosen custom textures from 36 textures as created before in the previous post.

Hope this will give you guys the general view of them before further importing to the Cryengine environment. Also, the photos of the bridge and architectural folly in Cryengine environment will be shown later on in the next post.

Enjoy:>

  • The 3 Chosen Textures of Motion Used in the Models

Texture 1

Type: linear
Brightness: Dark
Places applied in the models:
Mainly on the exterior facades of bridge in the entrance part and central part as well as on the F-shaped facades of folly.
Reasons:
To emphasize the strong linear lines on the facades of bridge and the sharp F-shaped facades of folly.

 Texture 2

Type: Rotational
Brightness: Medium
Places applied in models: The two elevators in the bridge only.
Reasons: To strengthen the rotating property of the elevators while going down to the folly.

Texture 3

Type: Scalar
Brightness: Light
Places applied in the models:
Mainly on the exterior facades of bridge in the entrance part and central part as well as on the F-shaped facades of folly
Reasons:
To emphasize the strong linear lines on the facades of bridge and the sharp F-shaped facades of folly.

Elevator for Dean and Students of Architecture in Expt. 3_Bridge

The following photos are the elevator created for both the Dean and students of architecture travelling along my bridge in this experiment 3. It will bring the Dean and students to the architectural folly located on the valley ground starting from the entrances on both sides of bridge.

To do so, the elevators will travel to the center part of the bridge and then descend to the valley ground via the large opening on the bottom of bridge connecting to the interior elevator tunnel. This gives the overall pathway of elevators.

Apart from this, custom texture chosen from the 36 textures I created before in the previous post is applied on the elevator surfaces to express the sense of motion of the elevators.

Elevator for students (left) is larger then that for Dean (right).
Besides, the one for Dean is colored in orange for recognition.

Elevator for students (left) is in kite shape whereas that for Dean (right) is in V-shape.

Top view
The shape of these two elevators are just fit to each other and there is a cushion at the front of each elevator, so that this can avoid collision in case of accidents when travelling along the same tunnel within the bridge.
