36 Textures for Expt. 2_The Space Between

Halo, everyone. The 36 textures I create for the experiment 2 - The Space Between are posted as follows. The aim of these textures is to show the brightness of the surface textures, from light to medium and medium to dark. These 3 types of brightness (i.e. light, medium and dark) will be choosen within the 36 textures and used in my Sketchup model. They are shown as follows.

Hope you guys like it!

  • 36 Textures showing Brightness

In the above image, 6 different types of textures are listed in columes. Down the columes, brightness is changing from light to dark. Also, it is changing slightly across the rows, giving the darkest texture at the bottom left of the overall image.

  • Selected Textures for using in the Devopled Model

Texture 1

Brightness:

Light

Painted areas of model:

Mainly the ceiling of the roof-like structure and also the ceiling of another L-shaped structure.

Concept:

This droplet-like shaped texture is creataed to show the freedom nature of water movement. As shown above, the "droplets" are splashing out in one source towards outter spaces. This is as if the water flowing under the monument vigorously and freely, forming a large waterfall. Hence, by putting this texture on the ceiling of those two L-shaped structures arranging in two different heights and directions, a strong symbolism of nature can be effectively demonstrated as the ceilings of both lower L-shaped one representing the ocean and upper one standing for the sky face directly to the water surface underneath.

Texture 2

Brightness:

Medium

Painted areas on the model:

Mainly the upper parts of the model, like the surface texture of the top level and the ceiling of the top level. Some are painted on the lower parts of the exterior wall in the monument.

Concept:

The X-like shaped texture is mainly used to make some of the walls of model more eye-catching and also three dimensional. Thus, this will help capture the users' eyesight in their first glance while entering the wide and open space so as to let them looking around the structure as well as the natural sceneries surrounded. Consequently, the purpose of making people feel spiritually uplifting can be met by motivating the users to appreciate the spaces inside and outside the building during their movements throughtout the whole space.

Texture 3

Brightness:

Dark

Painted areas in model:

The exterior facade of the top level structure.

Concept:

The usage of the darkest texture on the top level is mostly bacause of keeping the general deisgn of colouring in building (i.e. to have the darkest outter facades on one axial plane while lighter surfaces on another axial plan). As such, the contrast can be strengthen by putting a large dark box-shaped on top of the white or lighter colour surfaces below. Besides, it serves as the same function as texture 2 to capture people eyes first via its unique pattern and contrast between black and white in colouring. Ultimately, this will make users feel refreshing and surprising about the texture of buillding.
